Here are 12 ideas to maximize storage in your bedroom:

Storage Trick #1: Double-Duty Furniture

You have to be strategic when it comes to space in a small bedroom, so using pieces that serve two purposes is a good way to go. A small dresser is perfect for a bedside table, it allows for extra storage space while still giving the balanced look. If you intend to have a desk or makeup table, look for something slim and visually lightweight as it can easily double as a bedside table. Perhaps you would like somewhere to sit beside your bed and therefore consider getting an end-of-bed bench with storage underneath and a seat on top.

Storage Trick #2: Floating Shelves As A Bedside Table

This is a great alternative to bulky bedside tables as they will make your bedroom feel larger and less cluttered as the floors are kept clear. It also allows space for baskets underneath. Check out this floating shelf from Burke Decor or look into IKEA Eket (or make your own floating shelf) for a more affordable alternative.

Storage Trick #3: Under Bed Storage

This can be built into the bedframe or just a separate storage box underneath a bed. For small rooms, a platform bed in the corner with storage underneath can be great.

Storage Trick #4: Maximise Your Vertical Space

Floor-to-ceiling wardrobes are a great example of trying to maximize vertical space. There’s also heaps of vertical space behind doors that can be used. Consider trying out over-door hangers or hooks. They’re fantastic for storing hats, bags, and coats whilst keeping it all hidden when the door is left open.

Storage Trick #5: Stackable Drawers

Great way to maximize those open spaces in a standard builder-grade closet that only has long hanging bars and a shelf, or consider stashing your dresser in the closet.

Storage Trick #6: Modular Storage

Modular storage systems are composed of multiple components that can be combined in endless configurations to fit your bedroom. They give you the bespoke look of a custom storage unit for a fraction of the price.

Storage Trick #7: Narrow Dressers or Tallboy

Instead of big, bulky dressers, consider getting narrower ones or a tallboy in the corner of your bedroom. Tallboys are much more space efficient than dressers as they are much taller than they are wide.

Storage Trick #8: Drawer Dividers

Drawer dividers help you use all the space in your drawers and encourage you to take the time to fold properly and store clothing. Most people already use dividers in the kitchen for cutlery but don't realize that they can also be used in bedroom drawers. Compartmentalizing is one of the most useful organization tricks and will help maximize your existing storage.

Storage Trick #9: Space Saving Hangers

Instead of ordinary hangers, you can use space-saving ones that feature grooves for additional hooks so multiple pieces of clothing can be hung on one hanger.

Storage Trick #10: Open or Semi-Open Closets

If you’re a minimalist, and your room doesn’t come with built-in closets, consider this as they take up less space, and if you don’t have too many things, it can make for a feature in the room. Alternatively, you can close them up with a curtain to mimic a built-in without needing too much work.

Storage Trick #11: Utilise Alcoves

If there are nooks in your bedroom due to an awkward room shape or ceiling structure, it’s the perfect place for a built-in custom storage unit.

Storage Trick #12: Build Storage Around Your Bed

Finally, if you are in the process of building or renovating, you may consider building storage around your bed. You can build headboard storage with built-in bedside tables or a custom end-of-bed trunk or bench.
